It’s all about Robert Griffin III this weekend as he tries to lead the Washington Redskins to a shocking Week 1 over Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints.
Obviously the NFL odds are in the New Orleans Saints favor considering they’re at home and have one of the best quarterbacks in the league.
However, Griffin could very well be on his way to becoming a great. Taken with the second overall pick in the draft, behind only Andrew Luck, expectations are indeed high. From the early signs, it was an excellent choice as he’s looked very poised and incredibly talented so far in preseason and training camp.
All the attention is going to be on Griffin and he actually has a great matchup against a shaky Saints secondary.
New Orleans may get up by a lot on the scoreboard, meaning there could be plenty of opportunities for Griffin to rack up some garbage time yards. He can beat teams with his powerful arm and excellent elusiveness and speed, as he showed at Baylor last year.
The Redskins definitely need their quarterback to play beyond his capabilities as there’s not a ton of offensive talent on the roster. Pierre Garcon is a solid receiver but has never been a number one before, while there’s three different running backs who will all get carries this season.
Defense isn’t exactly a super strong-point either, so this one’s all going to come down to how the rookie handles the spotlight and the offense.
He’ll only have to look to the other team’s QB to learn how to run things. Brees is one of the best in the business.
His Saints are favored by at least a touchdown for this game, but should Griffin play lights out you never know what could end up happening this coming Sunday.
